Very important brachiopod faunas (more than 2300 specimens) have been collected these last years in the Lias of Vendée and Deux-Sèvres departments (Southern Margin of Massif Armoricain, France). The paleontological study of 48 species referred to 24 genera has been published elsewhere (alméras et al., 2010). The present paper describes some sections where brachiopods have been collected and the methods utilizated for morphological study of the species and their variability illustrated (for the first time) by shell phtographs (Fig. 6-8). The brachiopod zonation available for the Southern Margin of the Massif Armoricain is described with its 10 Zones and 5 Subzones. This zonation is correlated with the Standard Chronostratigraphy based on ammonites of the North-Western European realm. It is also compared with North-Tethyan (Pyrenees) and South-Tethyan zonations (Western Algeria) (Fig. 10A-B). The Variabilis Crisis is evidenced. At last, paleobiogeographical observations deal with relations between brachiopod communities and paleogeographical evolution which induces paleoenvironmental conditions suitable (or not) to brachiopods.
