Schweigert G., Zeiss A., Westermann G.E.G. (2012) The Gravesia homeomorphs from the latest Kimmeridgian of Mombasa, Kenya // Revue de Paléobiologie, Vol. spéc. 11. P.13-25.

New ammonite collections from Upper Jurassic beds of the fossiliferous Freretown clay pit of Mombasa, Kenya, form the basis of a review of their biostratigraphic and palaeobiogeographic significance. Among these ammonites, the forms earlier included in the northwest European genus Gravesia belong to an endemic lineage, for which a new genus, Afrogravesia n. gen. (type species: Gravesia loupekinei), is introduced herein. The Upper Jurassic Kenyan ammonite faunas in general are closely related to faunas from India and Madagascar. Among the material the genus Hybonoticeras permits a correlation with the Tethyan standard zonation. Several species of Hybonoticeras from the Freretown section indicate that most of the beds earlier assigned to the Tithonian are in fact of late Kimmeridgian age. However, the early Tithonian Hybonotum Zone is also recognized by an unequivocal fragment of a Hybonoticeras of the H. hybonotum group possibly from the uppermost part of the section.
