The current state of the art of the chrono-/biostratigraphic subdivision of the Bathonian Stage (Middle Jurassic) in SW Germany is summarized. The Bathonian can be subdivided into seven standard zones with ten ammonite faunal horizons. Of these, the bradleyi-, secundus- and modiolaris-horizons are here newly introduced. Like in the Bajocian, the precision of this subdivision is still preliminary in some of these zones. Moreover, the Late Bathonian rock record in SW-Germany is incomplete
